How to fix a sideways PDF

A sideways PDF usually means the page orientation is wrong, not that the document is damaged. This commonly happens with scans, phone captures or pages combined from sources with different orientations.

Quick answer

Rotate only the pages that are wrong.

If a PDF opens with one or more pages sideways, select those pages and rotate them 90° clockwise or counterclockwise. If a page is upside down, rotate it 180°. Then save a new PDF and reopen it to confirm the corrected orientation.

Why does a PDF open sideways?

Scanners and document-capture workflows can save pages with orientation that does not match how the content should be read. A combined PDF can also contain portrait and landscape source pages with inconsistent rotation settings.

What if the page is upside down?

An upside-down page needs a 180° orientation change. In a page-level workflow, two 90° rotations produce the same final orientation.

Page rotation is not the same as rotating an image

A PDF page can contain text, vector graphics and images together. Rotating the page changes the viewing orientation of that page. Rotating only an image object inside the page is a different editing operation and is not what eggPDF's Rotate tool does.

Why can a PDF look correct in one viewer but wrong elsewhere?

Viewer behavior, damaged files or unusual page settings can sometimes produce inconsistent results. Saving a new PDF with the intended page rotation and then reopening it in another viewer is a useful verification step.
